These leafs are taken from the bo tree in Bodhgaya, where the Buddha reached enlightenment, in Bodhgaya, under such a bo tree or asvattha [ficus religiosa]. From this tree a sapling was brought to Sri Lanka and later a sapling from that tree went back to Bodhgaya.
